Origin of the haunting: Dates from 450ad to 1988, war, murder, general life, witchcraft, plague, suicide, one of the most brutal prisons in the north of England.

Background: The Castle of Newcastle Upon Tyne stands on a steep sided promontory overlooking the River Tyne. The site has been occupied for nearly 2000 years, with flint flakes and a stone axe head found in archaeological excavations testament to much earlier prehistoric activity.

From the mid 2nd century till the beginning of the 5th century the Roman fort of Pons Aelius stood on the present castle site guarding the river crossing. From the 8th century the site of the fort was used as a Saxon cemetery. The Castle is built on top of the grave's 

The Newcastle Upon Tyne was founded by Robert Curthose, the eldest son of William the Conqueror in 1080 and was a mote and bailey type. The castle was rebuilt in stone during the reign of Henry II, between 1168 and 1178. In this time the keep and the curtain wall, with a gatehouse (Bailey Gate) were added to the site.

During the reign of King John (1207 - 1216) an aisled hall was built in the bailey and during the reign of Henry III between 1247 and 1250 a barbican - the Black Gate - was added to the north gate. The town wall was completed in the mid 14th century and the castle became isolated within the new defences. By 1589 it was described as old and ruinous.

Ghost story: This Location has so many ghost stories. One of the main ghost stories are of a civil war soldier who wanders the castle museum and queens chamber There is often a dark figure seen in the chapel. A small boy with ginger hair is cited in the Garrison room and often talks to small children visiting the castle. There is also a very dark entity that haunts the garrison room making people feel sick and sometimes pass out as our team have witnessed this on more than one occasion. There is also a dark monk who has no eyes, witnessed on many overnight ghost hunts. He will also attack you and leave you with markings. 

There is some real tails of tragedy here at the Castle Keep. The ghost monk seems to have freedom to walk the outer walls as well as inside the castle. It has been seen in the Chapel room as a dark mass and often repeats latten chants. It has been witnessed on the upper balconies of the building to where people have heard and felt the monk’s ghost, rush at them and past with speed and some people have been knocked back by the ghost.

With the castle been used as the prison of Northumberland for many years, people died here on a regular basis. Witches and criminals were also held here in the castle and have been noted to drop in from time to time.

There are two ghost men and woman that haunt the roof; one man was blown off the roof while firing a canon. The second man jumped off the roof in 1988. There has also been a story of a lady who was pushed from the roof while the castle was in use. There is a story with NO evidence to back it up that there is a young girl labelled the poppy girl who haunts the castle. This location is one of the most haunted locations in Newcastle and England.

Haunting type: Apparition, sounds, orbs, ectomist, stone tape theory moving objects, Electrical problems, violent attacks on members of staff.

Findings: This place is always an amazing investigation with new stuff discovered all the time. Some members of our team have investigated the castle over 60 times and things still happen that never happened before. Some of the best things witnessed in this location are a member of staff been physically been slapped across the back of the head and knocked the staff member to the floor. Most recently 2 members where attacked by unseen claws, each member had welts appear and scratching. We know are sure there is one very violent entity at play in the castle, a monk

Report from Trevor Brown: At 3 am I was in the Kings chamber talking with the individuals who were investigating that room when the other event marshal came in and whispered to me that I had to “come and see this” I thought she was just messing about but never the less I had my camera ready. When I turned and faced the door way out of the king’s chamber there it was across the hall and standing on top of the stairs leading up to another room. It was a large mist like shape and it travelled down the stairs and across the hall towards me and it was as if it was reaching out with its left arm. I clicked my camera and took the photo. By this time all the hairs on my body where standing on end and my eyes started to stream. It was all over in a split second but I got the photo. The exact time of the photo was 3.11 am. Being sceptical myself I had several sleepless nights trying to figure out what I had actually witnessed, but to no avail. I know it was not smoke as no one was allowed to smoke in the building and I thought it could have been my own breath but how could my own breath travel that far away from me to travel back towards me? I do not think about it anymore because it does my head in but I am grateful for the experience.

Note: In the image above, the candle with all the lights up does not look to scary but as soon as the lights go down, one person will be in there “ALONE” on a team task, last time we did this the young lady was pelted with stones and monistic chanting was recorded on an EVP recorder!

 We have reports of heat spots and a small dark figure that wanders the chapel. On one investigation we had a voice of a man tell us "No black magic" when everyone was sitting quite.

What will we be doing on the night!

Psychic Workshop - The investigators on the evening will work to give a reading using Psychometry or perform a task using dowsing rods or a pendulum. The medium will also attempt to contact spirit.

Ghost Hunting Kit Demonstration - Next you will be shown the tools of the ghost hunter's trade. They will include an EMF meter, EVP, laser Thermometer, Ouija, Dictaphones and an Infra Red PIR Motion Detector. Each team will receive an equipment pack to record your findings throughout the evening.

Ghost Walk/ History Walk - This is your chance to have a good look round the haunted locations. The Medium, She will give out information on the energies they are feeling in the locations. A local Historian will try to validate the information given with what they know about the property.

Vigils - Now you begin your own hunts for paranormal phenomena. In small teams led by an experienced member of staff / Paranormal investigator, you will move around various hot spots at the property, recording findings using your investigation pack.

Tasks -  We won’t just leave you sitting around, we have team and lone vigil task’s that everyone should take part in. There is also lone vigil forfeits if someone do’s not complete the task in the haunted location. We will be sending some of you off to do task's deep in the hart of the location. Everything from Black Scrying mirrors to been locked alone in a haunted location.

Each team will get a chance to analyse the data recorded and spend time in the HUB with our lead investigator, monitoring the night vision cameras and much more!

Post Investigation Discussion - After the vigils all the teams will discuss and compare their results of their vigils, in particular to note any similar occurrences between teams, that's assuming of course that you have made it through the night!

Key information
The minimum age is 18 years. No alcohol or drugs are allowed, including any medication that may cause drowsiness. You must be fit enough to climb stairs. No qualifications or experience are necessary.

 About the Tools you will be using

We pride our self’s on giving you more to do on an overnight ghost hunt than any other company.

This is what you will be able to use on the night and have access to as well as be using in team tasks.

Each member of the public get split into small teams of 4 -7 maximum, we will not have you in a team of 12 or more like most companies.

In your team you will have one member of Ghost Hunter Team UK, a fully trained paranormal investigator with a wealth of scientific and spiritual knowledge. You will also be given a team kit containing.

EMF meter: used in the paranormal field for the detection of electrical sources that can conserved as paranormal. This piece of kit will help you eliminate the man made source. Once this is done if the meter is changing singles and fluctuating as if something is moving around you then this could possibly be paranormal or unexplainable. As manmade electricity won’t get up and move around you, it can NOT do this. Whatever is moving around you may have free will and we will show you how to communicate with spirit using this tool effectively with outstanding results

Night Vision Camera: We use only the best ghost hunting gear on our events. No other company in the UK will allow such an expensive item into the public’s hands. But we do! This hand gun shaped night vision camera can change from day to night mode automatically. It will also take still photos in night vision with an LED screen so you can see everything, something that the human eye won’t! see this will. It can penetrate total darkens up to about 30ft. Any evidence recorded will; be sent to you via email. So make sure you leave you email on the night and see just what was captured on you night with us.

Dictaphone or EVP recorder: Each team will also get an EVP recorder and our lead technical investigator will have many other items that can be used alongside this device like enhanced hearing device, 'Raudive Diode AKA white noise device', or software packages back at our HUB of operations so you can hear what’s been caught. You will also have a list of EVP questions that are guaranteed to get some form of results on you investigation with us.

Infrared Gun Thermometer: This is a gun shaped device that will allow you to see the fluctuation in room temperature and with pin point accuracy it will find out if the temperature in locations is dropping or increasing letting you know if something has came into the location that could possibly be paranormal and crating a hot or cold spot. It’s also grate for eliminating drafts and explaining cold spots.

Angled Torch: This torch is designed by the military and used on missions by army personnel it comes with 3 different settings using high output LED lights that can change top RED for use with the night vision camera, green for a soft light and ideal for reading from the team tasks or writing you notes and blue to identify could liquids, like blood stains, spiritual residue or wet marks. It also has normal setting with bright white light and a safety clip that can be used to clip the torch to your clothing, leaving your hands free.

You will also have a spiritual kit. It’s a kit that is recognised in the use of communicating with the dead. Some items are deemed as witchcraft and some as divination tools.

Ouija Boards: Now this is an item that you do not have to use if you do not want to. You have an Ouija Board in each team that can be taken and used in any room; your team leader will talk you through opening and closing the board correctly. It can be used to gain information and names from the dead.

Pendulum Kit: The pendulums are hand made by Handcraft, for us and our overnight ghost hunts. The kit contains one pendulum and one pendulum board that allows you to determine the angle of which it is swinging and gain you answers along with directions of locations and determining murder sites and loads more.

Black Mirror: Often associated with Witchcraft as a mirror to consort with demons. This is untrue. The mirror is used to gaze into a darkness to ask question and it’s said that person using the mirror will see their face change into that of the dead person you’re communicating with or the ghost who haunts the location its used in, some people see shapes and letters numbers or images.

Dowsing Rods: These can be used to find locations or spots to where people have died. You can ask question and determine the answers by the rods crossing over each other. You team leader will show you how to use this effective tool.
